Givendale Cottages offer guests the ultimate rural escape in the heart of North Yorkshire, where guests can enjoy English countryside at its very best. Located in a beautiful, elevated setting on the Newby Hall Estate and nestled on the banks of the River Ure, guests can enjoy far-reaching views of the Yorkshire Dales as well as extensive walks from the door.

These two beautifully restored and newly renovated18th century cottages combine historic charm with luxury and modern comfort.  Moat Cottage and Chantry Cottage are attached holiday cottages with interlinking gardens and terraces which may be joined.  When booked together the cottages sleep 9+ guests and offer the ideal solution for groups who are holiday-ing together but enjoy their own space, with separate accommodation but dining and outdoor space to accommodate all.

The luxury cottages share beautiful views, attractive cosy interiors with wood burners,  lovely gardens and terraces in a stunning rural setting, yet only 5 minutes from the cathedral city of Ripon. 

The location is perfect for visiting Yorkshire’s many attractions with the Yorkshire Dales, York and Harrogate all just an easy drive away.  There are two great pubs within walking / cycling distance as well as Newby Hall; guests can enjoy walking or cycling up to the impressive historic house and its award-winning gardens which boasts,  a miniature railway, the garden restaurant,  Giles Brandreth’s famous teddy bear collection, a famous dollhouses exhibition and much -loved adventure playground, as well as the collections of impressive Chippendales, tapestries, paintings and sculptures within the magnificent Robert Adam house.

Optional Hot-tub

When both Moat Cottage and Chantry Cottage are booked together, guests are welcome to book a hot-tub for their stay as an extra add-on. Pricing and availability varies depending on seasonality, so please enquire through Shanie as early as possible if you are interested in our hot-tub option.

Nestled on the banks of the River Ure, surrounded by woodland, parkland, open fields, historic sites, lakes, animals and birds the cottages offer guests superb bird / nature watching, fishing, cycling and great walking routes straight from the doorstep.

Dog-friendly self-catering

Dogs are very welcome! As well as providing extensive dog walks, the cottages all have enclosed private gardens, as well as a shared paddock and walled garden for excercising!

Outside dining areas and BBQ terraces with breathtaking, unspoilt views

The kitchens from both cottages open out in to pretty, private, enclosed gardens with bbq terraces overlooking beautiful, dappled views of woodland, open fields and far-reaching views towards the Dales, Ripon Cathedral and the site of an ancient medieval moated manor house.

Moat Cottage (Sleeps 4)

Moat Cottage overlooks the site of a medieval fort and guests can enjoy extensive views across the Yorkshire Dales. The accommodation comprises of; a small inviting entrance hall with cloaks cupboard and boot rack, a spacious light, double aspect, open plan living / dining room with smart tv and two-way log burner shared with the adjoining kitchen. The fully equipped kitchen is furnished with washer / dryer, coffee machine and breakfast bar and enjoys lovely countryside views.

The back door from the kitchen opens out into a pretty, enclosed garden with a private dining / bbq terrace overlooking beautiful, dappled views of woodland, open fields, the moated lake, with the Yorkshire Dales beyond. Upstairs the cottage has two attractive, south-facing bedrooms which can either be made up as twin single beds or super king to suit and a shared bathroom with separate bath and shower.

Chantry Cottage (Sleeps 5+)

Chantry Cottage boasts equal charm, attractive, cosy interiors with impressive views. The three tastefully furnished bedrooms include a master bedroom with king-size bed and en-suite shower room, a pretty, single bedroom with garden views and a double with views towards the Yorkshire Dales as well as a house bathroom with washbasin, loo and shower over the bath. The cosy snug, and a spacious sitting room, both furnished with log burners and smart tv’s, make this cottage perfect for families and larger groups.

There is also a utility room with washing machine, dryer and downstairs loo. Outside, there is a private enclosed garden with a furnished terrace directly outside the kitchen for al fresco dining, or you can load up a tray and follow the path from the garden gate to a private bbq terrace built into the garden walls which offers spectacular unspoilt views of the Yorkshire Dales and Ripon Cathedral. Guest can also relax in the walled garden, kick a ball around in the paddock and enjoy superb walks through woodland, open fields, along the river, around the lake through parkland all from the doorstep.

Additional rules

We respectfully ask that guests do not; host parties, smoke inside, wear outdoor shoes or take food upstairs, allow dogs upstairs or on the furniture, play music or make audible noise after 10pm, remove any keys from the premises (please make sure all doors are locked and windows closed whenever you leave the cottage and put keys back in the key box either by the front or back door).
