A lovely experience and one of our family’s favourite places to eat. You can’t beat sitting on the terrace or lawned dining area on a sunny day overlooking the beautiful walled garden.

The licensed Garden Restaurant offers delicious home cooked food including soups, salads, sandwiches, cakes, very good scones and hot lunches from 12-2pm. The restaurant is only open during Newby Hall’s open season which runs from April – October.
The Black Lion pub, Skelton-on-Ure – 1.8 miles
We feel extremely lucky to have such a fantastic village pub! The newly refurbished and reopened pub now houses not only a vibrant, atmospheric, gastro pub but also a farm shop and café.

The open fires, beautiful interior and excellent food and Yorkshire ales make it a really, memorable Yorkshire experience. We cannot recommend enough if you are looking to go out for a meal nearby.
You can walk (35/40 mins) or cycle (25 mins) there from the cottages through the Newby Hall parkland. Mary and Tadgh and their team will always give you a warm welcome.
Please check the website for opening times, events and to see their delicious seasonal menu.
What really sets these options apart is how easy they are to reach from Givendale Cottages.
Being able to walk or cycle to lunch, enjoy a pub dinner without worrying about driving, or head out for a morning coffee as part of a countryside walk adds to the sense of relaxation that defines a stay here.
The Blackamoor Pub – 0.75 mile
